Bridge cameras, as the name suggests are cameras that bridge the gap between the SLR and Point-and-shoot cameras. These bridge cameras are often compared to the small sized DSLR cameras but they lack the optical view finder of the SLR camera. The recent bridge cameras are digital and have manual controls on features like aperture, shutter-speed, IOS, metering and white balance. Bridge cameras usually have small sensors which reduce their lenses and hence reduce their focal length as well.
When it comes to selection of the best bridge cameras a few names comes to the mind like - Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28, Canon PowerShot SX10 IS, etc. and many more. The Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd offers 10.0 megapixels of image resolution with 12.0x optical zoom and 5.7x digital zoom. It has an IOS light sensitivity of 64 - 1600. Like more upper end bridge cameras, it also includes an image stabiliser, video recording, face detection and many more features. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 also has the same resolution as the Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd but it includes maximum resolution of 3648 x 2736 pixels. It has 18.0x optical zoom and 4.0x of digital zoom. The IOS light sensitivity is of 100 – 1600 and includes the similar features of face detection, image stabiliser, etc like Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd. The Canon PowerShot SX10 IS has the same pixel as that of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 with 20.0x of optical zoom and 4.0x of digital zoom. It has a screen size of 2.5 inch and includes all the other features like the other bridge cameras.
So it can be said that though all the bridge cameras have similar features, they also have their pros and cons at the same time. The user is the one to decide which camera is best suited for him/her depending on the specifications of the bridge cameras.
….but which is the best one?
