Canon has added another feather to the company’s already pride plumage with this DLSR model which can be placed in rank somewhere between the Canon 450D and 40D. This camera comes with a 15.1 mega pixel sensor. It is compact in design, yet sleek and solidly built. It has better handgrip which is more efficient and easy to aim and shoot. The large and shiny screen has been increased to the size of 3 inches similar to that of the 5D mark II. Through the new DIGIC 4 menu interface, scrolling the menus and changing the options have become easier.
There are numerous buttons available along with the mode dial, such as the ISO button and the shutter button. Operating the manual dial of the Canon EOS 500D you could move from the preset Auto mode, aperture priority from a range of landscape and portrait options to the latest video function. The latest added feature is the Creative Auto which initiates the beginners to the basics including the aperture, F-Stops and Depth of Field simple language asking whether you would like to choose the background to be sharp or blurry. You could adjust the settings in two quick press and scroll.
The video facility is the new introduction which gives you 1080p resolution at 20 frames a second and 720p resolution at 30 frames a second. With the auto-focus mode being slow to set, it is better to focus and shoot of your own. A built-in mike takes in the sound during recording but there is no external mike for improved performance.
The HDMI socket that comes with the camera lets you view your content on TV immediately. The effect of the shots taken on 18-55mm IS kit lens is extremely good.
