Aerial photography is a type of photography in which pictures are taken from an elevated position. A photographer can take aerial photos using commercial aircraft, a private plane, a balloon or a helicopter. Aerial photography requires specialized training. In this genre of photography, the camera is not supported by the ground. It is one of the most difficult types of photography, but at the same time it is also adventurous and exciting.
Below are certain guidelines that will help you in its hassle-free execution:
- Always carry an earplug to work better.
- Always make sure that your equipment is ready by performing a pre-flight check up.
- Always fly low.
- Use day time with clear sky.
- Avoid flash with windows as it will ruin your aerial photography.
- Avoid sitting on wing seats for taking photos
- Always look for other alternative other than planes.
- Carry shorter focal length lenses generally result in sharper images. If using a zoom lens, such as the popular Sony 24-105mm 3.5-4.5, set it to a “wide angle” focal length.
- Timing: dusk and dawn time is the best time to execute aerial photography.
- Set your exposure to a fast shutter speed. Use your tripod, to avoid shaking of the camera.
- Use a polarizing filter as well as UV filters. The sky will look much better.
