Aquarium photography is one of the toughest forms of photography. With impure water, thick glasses, bubbles, insufficient lightings and unnecessary stuff around, it is impossible to get a clear image of the creatures inside. There are certain aspects that make aquarium photography the most difficult of all. The water in the aquarium might look clear to you when viewed from the other side of the glass but there are some fine invisible particles which do not reflect light. This does not provide the needed light thus making the photograph unclear. Fish aquariums are usually made of thick glasses which may create some trouble focusing on the object. Different patterns of lighting in and out of the aquarium would make the task a difficult one. Sometimes, due to irregularity in lightings you may find flashes on the images.

There are ways to overcome this problem. Before deciding on taking a photograph of an object, see whether the water is clear or unclear. You might also want to temporarily disable your air pump, like the Eheim Air Pump 200, so that the bubbles do not obscure your photograph. Take photograph when the water is clear, as this will ensure enough reflection of light. To avoid flash-fires, increase the angle of flash of your camera. Keep your camera at an angle of 45 degree to the object; this will prevent flash-fires. Make the best use of the light available inside the tank to get a clear picture of the water objects.
