Here is a simple trick to take emotion filled pictures. If the current lighting conditions stay the same, then it is important to use a longer shutter speed than the synchronised flash uses. With exposure times longer than 1/30 of second, striking wisp effects result.

Take the picture above: Wedding photo – the warm red tones capture the feeling of the celebration perfectly. In this case, an exposure time of 1/8 of a second achieved the emotional result.
