A few decades ago, photography was only a stream of visible light passed over a sensitive material. It had no dimensions and nothing new. A camera was an accessory of privilege. It represented class and stature. The few minds that worked upon simplifying this technology have succeeded in bringing this to the layman’s door. While there were other set of brains that worked vigorously to make it more complex and efficient. That led to the development of smaller cameras from bigger ones, colour photography from monochrome and the present digital from mechanical.

However, these improvements could be easily understood to a common man, as he uses them in his photographic sessions. But there are few illustrious technologies assisting photography in a professional level. One of them is the infrared photography. The man who invented it would have no idea about the number of crimes and emergencies this technology has averted. The infrared photography is a slight deviation from the normal one. The normal photography permits visible light to pass through the filter and strike the film. The infrared photography uses special filters, like the Hoya IR R72 52mm, that allow only infrared lights to pass through them. These lights will have a wavelength that ranges from 700nm to 1200nm.

These images are very capable in differentiating variations in altitude and heat. They are used by many of the satellites to acquire accurate information from the earth. It’s not just the tech wizards who use infrared photography. Jimi Hendrix, a famous musician used infrared photography on his literatures for a psychedelic feel. Photographer Elio Ciol used them for a faint aesthetic effect. It’s not just all this; an infrared camera can catch you from where ever you hide.
