Want to capture romance in your camera? It is necessary to know some basics before you aim to capture your dreams for future generations. First of all, it is not often that you will be able to get an opportunity to catch the full moon, but then again photography is all about looking for moments which can be immortalized.
If you ever find yourself with a camera on a moonlit night you should know what to do! You have two options either capture the moon (which is fairly easy) or the landscape bathed in the mellow moon light (which can be tricky)
Shooting the moon
Catch the moon as it is rising. That is the best time when the moon appears the largest due to the land reference of the horizon and the refraction of the earth’s atmosphere. The twilight sky gives you the right background. Make sure the lens is at least 300mm. remember a basic fact, the longer the lens the better the picture, and avoid more than a few seconds exposure or the moon will appear more elongated that circular.
Landscapes
Landscapes can appear ethereal and magical if you make it so. The light reflected from the snow really brightens up the pictures. If you have a desire to be creative then you need to invest in a tripod. If you have ISO 400 film then start with two seconds at f/2.8 and then make exposures doubling the time for every successive shot. You can take double exposures if you want to impress people.
