Street photography is an inevitable aspect of documentary photography, but still comes with it’s own identity and boundaries. Street photography is all about converting the streets into images. Street photography is a creative way of portraying our society with the help of techniques involved in Straight photography. Some masterpieces in street photography were created in the period between 1890 and 1975. And some legendary street photographers are W. Eugene Smith, William Eggleston, Brassaї, Willy Ronis etc.
Techniques
Overcome shyness
For street photographers shyness is something nonexistent. If you are looking forward to street photography, the first thing you have to throw away is your shyness. You are no longer conducting surveillance in a closed studio environment and while capturing photographs people will stare at you but you need to concentrate on your work.
Invisibility
A street photographer has to keep the subjects from being aware that he/she is being photographed. One more aspect of invisibility is blending in with the crowd. So a street photographer should try to behave in an inconspicuous manner by observing the crowd and the circumstances.
But there are some technical issues which can distract the process such as:
• In the evening a street photographer will surely face difficulty with anything slower than 400 until the time he/she uses a tripod, like the professional Manfrotto MA 055 MF3.
• A large shutter speed can destroy your image, that’s why it is advisable to use minimum shutter speed.
• A photographer can face problems while shooting in those areas where shooting is prohibited. So he/she should know where to shoot and where not to.
