The field of photography has seen great strides in recent times. From the traditional heavy weight cameras, today’s equipment is state of art and comes in light weight materials. Digital cameras are compact and can be carried wherever you go. In fact, the small ones are slim and come with large memory space which can be enhanced with a memory card.
Digital cameras are used by both professionals as well as amateurs. While the professional cameras come with advanced features, the amateurs prefer the basic cameras like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS80. In order to photograph in high speed motion, especially in fields like astronomy, a device known as the charge-coupled device or CCD is used. This device is a series of capacitors that are linked together. They are sensitive to light and images are taken by them through electrical charge transfer. These devices are predominantly used in digital photography.
Electronic images are created by transforming into a charge the photoelectric effect by the Charged Coupled Device. These images are more effective than those from traditional film as they pick up seventy percent of incident light as compared to two percent.
Every slice of the image is transferred by this device and charges are converted to a particular voltage by the last capacitor in the series. This is then stored in the memory of the digital camera. Today, we have another alternative known as the APS. A lot of people go in for APS rather than the CCD as it is more economical.
